On Thursday 15th October 2009 the Young Carers group came together for the first time. They used various fun activities to work together to produce a list of the different sorts of leisure activities, hobbies and social events they would like to be able to do that would enable them to have time away from their role as a Young Carer. After the meeting the Young Carers went by minibus on a social trip to McDonalds for tea where they continued to get to know each other and share their experiences.
One of the things that the Young Carers said that they would like to be able to do during the meeting was to go ice-skating on the outdoor ice rink in York. This event took place on Saturday 19th December. Ten young carers were supported by Staff from the Carers Centre to go shopping, ice-skating and for tea. They all had a wonderful time and are looking forward to planning and organising their next event.
